Foolproof Organizing Tips for Clutter Blindness
Getting organized is not easy for everyone, but these tips can make it possible for everyone. Clutter blindness is a thing and many of us have it. The same pair of pants sit on a chair in the bedroom for months and you forget it is there and you no longer see it. You walk by a small toy in the corner of the room for months and no longer see it.
Tip number one is to take a picture of a room or a section of the room and blow it up so you can really see what it there. You will be amazed at what you forgot about or had clutter blindness on. This is when you make the decision on do I keep the item that has been there for over a year needing a button or a hem, or do I get rid of it. If I were with you, I would say, get rid of it since for a year you have not really missed it or seen it.
The second tip is for those areas that might have too much to take a picture. Use a paper towel tube and look through the hole to only concentrate on that area. Start in that area only by marking it off with painter’s tape so you do not get distracted and use colorful tape to really see the space that needs attention. Again, if you have not missed the item or it has so much dust on it you can barely see the design, it is time to eliminate the item. If it is something you have been looking for, decide where it needs to go so you know and remember its location. It belongs in the kitchen or bathroom. I find many items in the wrong room when I am helping my clients.
The last tip is to imagine someone is coming over for a stay in one of your rooms. Make that the room you start you organizing in, and you will see the clutter. Keep asking yourself, if she is coming in an hour, what should I pick up and put away?
Most of all, remember this a process, not an event so it will take time, but you will see the clutter and get that area organized.
