4 Tips For Back To School
Back to school is here and it is still a different year then in previous years. Not only do the kids need to remember their backpacks, lunches and homework, they also need to remember a mask or 2. The school year is different but can made easy to handle and maintain control with a few tips.
First tip is to get things together the night before instead of waiting until the morning in a panic. More mistakes are made and items forgotten when you are in a panic and in a hurry. If lunches are to be made, take a few minutes in the evening and get everything together. Have the kids get involved so they like what they take and you are not doing it all. This will also give them some responsibility. Pin a note on the refrigerator or the backpack to remember the lunch in the morning.
The second tip is to make sure you have looked in and requested any papers needing signatures, information and returned to the school. If you and your kids make it a habit to review what is inside their backpack every evening, you will not miss or forget that important piece of paper. It also helps you get them into the habit of cleaning out the backpack so they can find what they need each day. Many times my clients have found old food in the backpack. It only takes a few minutes to teach them.
The next tip is to make sure they have the masks they will need as we work around the pandemic. Whether your school is mandating it or not, at some point, your child will be wearing masks. Many of the masks break during the day because kids play with them, so giving them a few extra is a good idea. Put the clean ones in a Ziplock bag so they can always get a fresh one. If you are using cloth ones, washing them daily is recommended especially if they are worn for the entire day. Kids set them down during lunch or they can fall on the floor so these are more reasons to have a couple extra in a pocket of their backpack.
The last tip is to make decisions on what is to be worn the night before. Some kids are still sleepy and anxious about school, so making decisions in the morning might not go well. There are also kids who might take a longer time to make this decision and possibly miss the bus or have eat their breakfast too quickly. Eliminate this problem and lay them out in the evening.
