5 Tips For Organizing Your Kitchen

The kitchen is where everything happens from entertaining to family night. The kitchen in the world is the centerpiece of many homes. The first tip in organizing your kitchen is to keep only what is used daily, weekly or possibly monthly in the easy to reach areas of the kitchen. Items infrequently used, such as the turkey platter, should be stored in harder to reach places or in another room or storage area.

The next tip in organizing is to take everything out of each cupboard and drawer to make sure you find like items. I find most times I am helping with a kitchen that like items are in multiple places. I often find 10 spatulas and 10 whisks because they are in so many different drawers. Maybe you will find you have 15 wooden spoons.

The third tip is to make decisions on what to eliminate based on how long you have had it and when the last time you used it. If you have not used it in a year or more, it is time to donate it and let someone else enjoy the item. Many charities are looking for cooking items to help individuals start a new home.

The next tip would be to use organizers in the drawers to put like items together and to make it easy for others to see where things go so they can put them where they belong. You will find a variety of types and prices such as bamboo, plastic or mesh. Choose what will make you happy when you open that drawer.

The last tip is to use extra shelves in the cupboards to maximize the space if needed. Another great product is pullout shelving for the bottom of the cupboards. So many times there are products and items in the back that are forgotten and never used because no one wants to get on their knees to dig around to retrieve something. Having a pullout makes it easy and convenient to store and find items on the bottom of the cupboard. Many stores offer do it yourself pullout shelving to save you money and time.
