Tips for Managing Work, Home, and Teaching School Simultaneously
As the school year starts this year, it will be like no other. Many families are going to have school and work in their home for weeks or months, full or part time. They will have to learn how to manage everything at one time and continue to be productive.
Families should start by designating where everyone will do schoolwork and work. Everyone should have their own desk with supplies along with all the technology needed to help them stay on track. If parents will be on the phone for meetings, there should be a schedule in a location everyone can see so those meetings are not interrupted. A large paper calendar or dry erase calendar can be used so updates can easily be made. Place the calendar outside of the work area so it can be seen without someone coming into the area during one of those important meetings.
If possible, scheduling time for lunch for everyone would be helpful for questions or if help with something specific is needed. It is also a great time to check in with everyone and clear any technical problems before the afternoon begins.
Making time for snacks and outdoor time for the younger students will help keep them on the school agenda especially if they are operating on a hybrid schedule. If a tutor is being used for specific classes, arrange time for a quick update before or after the tutor is at your home.
Scheduling menus for dinner on a weekly basis will help eliminate stress and stop the go to carry out or unhealthy choices. Keeping a good dinner plan will assist in making things seem more normal for those dealing with covid anxiety.
Flexibility will also be something parents and students will need during this time for things to work and run as smooth as possible. Remember this is new for everyone, so the time will be different and not everything will be normal.
