Spring Cleaning and Organizing
What does that mean to you? For some it means cleaning baseboards, cupboards, and closets. For others it means sprucing up the house with assorted colors in pillows, bedding, and decorations. Whatever it means to you, it should involve some organizing.
Spring cleaning and organizing go together with changing winter clothes, bedding, and toys. Start with the simple items such as winter boots. Has anyone grown out of theirs and no one else will be able to wear those boots? If that is the case, it is time to donate. If they are being kept, make sure they are in good condition for the next winter. The same process should be used for coats and snow pants, and they should be laundered before storing them for the summer. You do not want to pull them out next year and have to immediately wash them. Look at all the winter hats for holes or rips to make sure someone will be able to wear them next year. Make sure gloves and mittens have matches and are in good condition for next season. Eliminate those with holes, or those no one can fit into. If they need to be stored to make room for something else, make sure the bin is clear so you will easily find them next year. Make a list of the items needed for next year and put it in your phone or on the bin you have stored them in.
Time to store the sleds and toys used in the snow too. Whether they are going to the garage or the basement, store them up on higher shelves since they do not have to be handy for the next 6 months.
If you have used flannel sheets over the winter and it is time to change to summer sheets, make sure they are washed and store them in a clear bin or use a space saver bag to make room for other items in the linen closet.
The next place to make a change and organize would be your clothes. It may not be 90 degrees outside yet but wearing darker and heavier fabrics might not be for you. Take out the items you have not worn over the past 2 years. Yes, it has been plagued by the pandemic, but will you be dressing the same as before with work possibly looking different for the future. Look for stains that will not come out, clothes that no longer make you feel good when you are wearing them and clothes of which you are tired. If you have spare closet or dresser, you store them in, take those away and bring in the more spring type clothes. It probably is not time for shorts and sleeveless shirts, but some spring sweaters might look nice. Remember this does not have to been done in one day, take your time and break it into sessions, so you make the right decision and have time to organize.
